The Carpet Store combines flooring installation experience, technical training, and personalized service for homeowners and businesses across southwest Iowa.
For many homeowners, flooring projects can feel impersonal. Large retailers often separate the sales process from installation, leaving customers to work with multiple departments and subcontractors throughout a renovation. Matt and Denise Riley took a different approach when they acquired The Carpet Store in Red Oak, Iowa, in 2007.
From the beginning, the business was built around direct involvement in every stage of a project, from material selection and measurements to installation and final walkthroughs. Nearly two decades later, the family owned company continues serving homeowners and commercial clients throughout southwest Iowa with a hands-on approach centered on flooring installation, remodeling support, and customer consultation.
Located at 305 East Reed Street in Red Oak, The Carpet Store provides a range of flooring products and installation services, including carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, laminate, tile, area rugs, and subfloor repair. Additional information about the company’s flooring products and services is available through their official website.
The showroom features products from manufacturers such as Mohawk, Anderson Tuftex, Shaw, Dal Tile, and Pergo.
Denise Riley works directly with clients during the design and product selection process. She also conducts on site measurements and consultations to help customers evaluate flooring materials within their home environment. Design inspiration, showroom updates, and project features are regularly shared through the company’s Instagram page and through Denise Riley’s social platform at X.
“Every home has different lighting, layouts, and needs,” said Denise Riley. “We try to help customers choose materials that fit both the space and how they use it day to day.”
Matt Riley oversees installation projects personally rather than outsourcing the work to subcontractors. According to the company, maintaining consistency throughout the process has remained an important part of how the business operates.
“No two projects are exactly alike,” Riley said. “Different homes require different preparation methods, materials, and installation approaches.”
In addition to installation experience, Riley has pursued technical certifications related to flooring care and restoration through the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). His certifications include Carpet Cleaning Technician, Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician, Water Restoration Technician, Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician, and Color Repair Technician.
He also holds three IICRC Journeyman designations in fire and smoke restoration, textile cleaning, and water restoration. According to Riley, the training has influenced how he approaches preparation work and installation planning.
“A lot of the long term performance of a floor depends on the preparation underneath it,” Riley explained. “Moisture conditions, subfloor preparation, and material acclimation all affect how flooring performs over time.”
The company also offers carpet repair, carpet re stretching, commercial flooring installation, and shop at home consultations. During in-home consultations, samples are brought directly to customers so materials can be viewed within the actual lighting and layout of the property.
For homeowners, the ability to evaluate flooring materials inside the home can simplify the decision making process, particularly when coordinating flooring with paint colors, cabinetry, and furniture.
The Carpet Store serves communities throughout southwest Iowa, including Red Oak, Clarinda, Atlantic, Shenandoah, Glenwood, and surrounding areas. In addition to residential work, the company has completed projects for commercial properties and businesses across the region.

Jennifer and Tom, homeowners near Red Oak, said they appreciated the ability to work directly with the same people throughout their flooring project.
“We liked being able to discuss every detail directly with Matt and Denise throughout the process,” they shared. “The experience felt organized and personal from beginning to end.”
Rick, a commercial property manager in Atlantic, Iowa, said consistency has been one of the reasons he has continued working with the company over the years.
“The communication and scheduling process has always been reliable,” he said. “That makes a difference when managing multiple properties.”
In addition to flooring operations, the showroom also includes Designs by Denise, a women’s clothing boutique operated alongside the family business. The combined space reflects the Riley family’s long term involvement in the Red Oak business community.
Project videos, flooring demonstrations, and additional updates are available through the company’s YouTube channel. Customers can also find community updates and business information through the company’s Facebook page.
Even as the flooring industry has shifted toward larger retail chains and high volume installation models, Matt and Denise Riley have continued operating with a direct service structure that emphasizes customer interaction and project oversight.
“When we’re working in someone’s home, we understand that it’s a major investment for them,” Riley said. “We try to approach every project carefully and make sure the customer feels informed throughout the process.”
