How HEETHR Turned Winter Into Innovation

HEETHR transformed years of field experience into advanced snow melting technology that helps make winter safer, smarter, and more dependable.

For many people living in northern climates, slipping on ice, struggling to clear a driveway, or knowing someone injured in a winter fall feels all too familiar. HEETHR believes the deeper problem is how readily these risks and limitations have come to be accepted as a normal part of winter life. Through years of landscape design and heated pavement installation, the company’s founders saw that harsh weather was not the only issue. The systems intended to manage snow and ice often fell short. That realization became the foundation for HEETHR’s approach to heated pavement innovation.

The company’s story did not begin inside a laboratory or manufacturing facility. It began outdoors, where years of designing and building landscapes taught lessons that could never be learned from blueprints alone. That experience eventually inspired a larger mission: rethinking how heated pavement systems could be designed to improve safety, sustainability, accessibility, and everyday life across North America.

Where Experience Became Innovation

Before launching HEETHR, co-founder Eric Aguib established his reputation as a landscape architect through Aguib Creations, designing and constructing sophisticated outdoor living spaces where engineering, drainage, and long term performance were just as important as aesthetics. As projects evolved, so did the company’s expertise, leading to the installation of heated driveways and walkways through SNOWMELTING.ca.

Working with virtually every type of snow melting system on the market revealed a consistent pattern. Many products performed well on paper, yet real-world installations exposed recurring challenges with drainage, performance, efficiency, maintenance, and long-term reliability. Those lessons eventually shaped every innovation HEETHR would go on to develop.

Rather than accepting those limitations, Aguib and his team began asking a different question.

If we managed to solve these problems for our local clients, why not make this available for everyone ?

That question became the foundation of HEETHR.

Building Better Systems Through Real World Knowledge

Unlike manufacturers that primarily design equipment from the factory floor, HEETHR was built by professionals who spent years installing, servicing, and troubleshooting heated pavement systems in demanding Canadian winters.

After completing more than 80,000 square feet of heated pavement for over one hundred clients, the company developed an integrated ecosystem based on firsthand experience rather than theory.

Today, HEETHR’s solutions include advanced heating technology, intelligent controls, drainage solutions, power distribution, remote monitoring, contractor education, and comprehensive technical documentation. Every innovation shares one objective: Making heated pavement everything it’s expected to be easier to install, easier to maintain, easier to operate, more energy efficient, and more dependable throughout the life of the system. .

“Nobody understands the strengths and weaknesses of these systems better than the people who install and service them every day. Our goal has always been to build technology that solves real problems, not just sell another product,” says Eric Aguib.

The company’s philosophy remains simple: the best technology is built by solving real problems, not imagining them.

Why Doctors Were Among The First To Embrace The Technology

One insight emerged naturally as HEETHR’s projects grew. Many of the homeowners choosing heated pavement were physicians and surgeons, professionals whose daily work reinforces the importance of preventing injuries before they happen.

Approximately 95 percent of its clients are physicians, many of whom specialize in surgery. Their reasons extend well beyond convenience.

Medical professionals understand that time is often measured in lives. Many remain on call throughout the year and cannot afford delays caused by dangerous winter conditions. A reliable heated entrance allows them to leave home safely regardless of snowfall or ice.

They also witness firsthand the devastating consequences of winter falls. Every season brings patients recovering from preventable injuries that affect not only the individual but entire families.

When one person falls, everyone around them carries part of the burden. Loved ones take time away from work, families adjust their routines, and caregivers devote months to supporting recovery. The true impact of a winter injury often reaches far beyond the emergency room.

Helping People Stay In The Homes They Love

Beyond safety, HEETHR has observed another growing trend.

Many homeowners approaching retirement begin considering condominiums, not because they want to leave their homes, but because winter has become too physically demanding.

Snow shoveling, icy walkways, and frozen driveways slowly transform a cherished family home into a source of anxiety. Years of memories, holiday gatherings, grandchildren playing in the backyard, and outdoor spaces built with care suddenly feel less accessible.

HEETHR believes people should not feel forced to move because of winter.

A thoughtfully designed heated pathway can provide safe access to the front entrance, garage, mailbox, or backyard while remaining cost effective. Rather than heating an entire property, homeowners can prioritize the routes they use every day, creating peace of mind without requiring extensive electrical upgrades or overwhelming installation costs.

For many families, that means preserving independence while continuing to enjoy the home they love.

Making Outdoor Living A Four Season Experience

Outdoor living has become one of the largest investments homeowners make. Beautiful patios, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, hot tubs, and saunas have transformed backyards into extensions of the home.

Yet for much of winter, many homeowners stop using the spaces they invested so heavily to create.

HEETHR sees winter differently.

A heated path leading to a hot tub allows homeowners to enjoy it comfortably, even barefoot. Heated seating areas around a fire pit encourage families and friends to gather outdoors throughout the season. Outdoor kitchens remain practical long after summer has ended, making a perfectly grilled meal in the middle of winter feel completely natural.

Rather than putting outdoor spaces into storage for months, heated pavement allows them to remain part of everyday life.

A Company Built Around Purpose

Technology may be the company’s most visible achievement, but purpose remains its foundation.

Eric Aguib’s determination to improve winter safety was shaped by watching his grandmother suffer a devastating broken femur after slipping on ice. The injury changed not only her life but also the lives of those around her. His mother spent months supporting her recovery, sacrificing work, opportunities, and valuable time with her own family.

That experience reinforced an important truth. Winter injuries rarely affect only one person. Families function like small communities, relying on one another every day. When one member is suddenly unable to care for themselves, everyone shares the responsibility.

HEETHR’s mission reflects that understanding.

For every fifty systems sold, the company pledges to donate one heated pavement system to help reduce slip and fall injuries within communities.

Employees also participate in Birthday Deeds, an initiative encouraging acts of kindness as part of celebrating personal milestones.

“It is good for nothing to be only good to yourself.”

That philosophy has become a guiding principle for the company, reinforcing the belief that innovation should ultimately improve the lives of others.

Preparing Communities For A Smarter Future

As climate patterns evolve and cities experience increasing pressure on stormwater infrastructure, HEETHR believes heated pavement should contribute to broader environmental solutions.

Its systems are designed to complement permeable pavement, encouraging water to naturally infiltrate the ground instead of overwhelming municipal drainage systems. The company believes sustainable engineering and practical winter safety should work together rather than compete.

As HEETHR continues developing new technology, the company believes innovation should solve more than today’s problems. Smarter drainage, permeable pavement, and better-performing heated systems can help properties operate more efficiently while supporting safer communities for years to come.
