The Los Angeles area suffered an estimated $50 billion or more in damage from multiple fires that began spreading in densely populated areas on Tuesday.
By noon Pacific time, fires were burning in Los Angeles County alone in Pacific Palisades and Malibu, Altadena and Pasadena, the Sylmar area of the San Fernando Valley, the Hollywood Hills and Studio City, and east of Santa Clarita.

The fire killed at least six people, destroyed more than 9,300 structures, forced the evacuation of more than 180,000 people, and burned about 35,500 acres, more than twice the size of Manhattan.
