Amy Schumer Lists Historic Brooklyn Heights Townhouse for $14 Million
In a strategic move, comedian and actress Amy Schumer has placed her Federal-style townhouse in Brooklyn Heights on the market for $14 million. This decision comes as she and her husband, renowned chef Chris Fischer, aim to relocate back to Manhattan, primarily for the benefit of their 5-year-old son, who recently gained admission to a desirable school.
Property Overview
The couple purchased the elegant early 1800s property in the summer of 2022 for approximately $12.3 million. Since then, they have made several customizations to better suit their lifestyle.
Notably, the townhouse was featured in the acclaimed 1987 film Moonstruck, which starred Cher and Nicolas Cage. With a width of 26 feet and spanning over 5,500 square feet across five levels, the home boasts four to five bedrooms and four bathrooms, complemented by an impressive array of 30 windows that flood the interior with natural light.
Interior Features
The first level of the townhouse showcases a modern kitchen that features:
- Exposed beam ceilings
- Wide-plank flooring
- Vintage wood cabinetry
- A marble-topped island
- High-end Gaggenau and Lacanche appliances
- A butler’s pantry with a zinc bar sink
- A cozy breakfast nook
Adjacent to the kitchen, a wood-paneled bedroom that has been converted into a library leads into a mudroom, which provides access to a landscaped backyard designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh. Currently, the backyard features a turf play area, though it could be customized as a private parking space.
The second level is home to two elegantly designed parlors, separated by large pocketing doors. This floor also includes a powder room and features an iron-railed terrace leading to the backyard. The expansive primary suite occupies the third floor, featuring a corner bedroom with an original fireplace, as well as a dressing area, sitting room, office, and a luxurious marble bathroom complete with dual vanities and a glass-encased shower.
Additional Amenities
The top floor of the townhouse consists of three more bedrooms, which share a stylish penny-tiled bathroom. Additional conveniences are found in the basement, which includes a custom wine cellar, an excavated gym, and full laundry facilities.
Moving Reasons
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Schumer explained their relocation plans succinctly: “He got into a good school, and we’re too lazy to commute 45 minutes to take our son to school every day.” This decision marks a significant shift for the family, emphasizing the importance of accessibility to education.
